Champions crowned at the 2017 British Cycling National Para-cycling Road Championships

William Bjergfelt, Mel Nicholls and Crystal Lane-Wright were among the riders crowned champions at the 2017 British Cycling National Para-cycling Road Championships in Saighton, Chester.

Time trials

Neon-Velo Cycling Team’s Bjergfelt took the C3 time trial title with a time of 45 minutes and 51 seconds, ahead of Alex Jones and David Murphy.

George Peasgood was too strong in the C4 category, his time of 47:27 enough for gold. Craig Preece took second with Krispin Gardiner third.

Nicholls showed her class in the women’s H4 time trial, nearly eight minutes clear of Lizzie Tench.

Paralympic champions Lora Fachie and Corrine Hall were the winners on the tandems, while there were also victories for Chris Madden (H3), Alex Brooke-Turner (H4), Crystal Lane-Wright (FC) and Rik Waddon (C1-3) while Hannah Dines won on the trike.

Results

Road races

Jack Garner, piloted by Joshua Dunham, triumphed in the tandem road race. Joseph Townsend and Dan Hopwood (hand-cycling) were victorious as Mel Nicholls completed the double with the win in the women’s hand-cycling race.

Craig McCann continued his fine 2017 with the British trike road title while there was another double, this time as Crystal Lane-Wright won the FC road race.

Alex Jones took gold in the C5 men’s race as Finlay Graham added to his time trial bronze with gold in the C1-3 road race, and Craig Preece was also awarded a British champion’s jersey in the C4 event.
