Great Britain strike team sprint gold at UEC Under-23 and Junior Track European Championships

Jack Carlin, Joe Truman and Ryan Owens struck under-23 team sprint gold as Great Britain Cycling Team added four more medals to their tally on day two of the UEC Under-23 and Junior Track European Track Championships in Anadia.

The trio - who won gold at two rounds of the 2017/18 Tissot UCI Track Cycling World Cup - were dominant on their way to victory, seeing off the challenge of Russia in the final a time of 44.167 seconds for gold in Portugal.

Silver for Ellie Dickinson in the under-23 women’s scratch race, bronze for Pfeiffer Georgi in the junior women’s elimination race, plus silver in the junior men’s team pursuit completed a successful day for Britain.

The quartet of Rhys Britton, Joe Nally, Jake Stewart and Fred Wright set a time of 4:08.652 in the gold-medal ride against Russia, who stopped the clock in 4:04.023 for victory.

Great Britain Cycling Team now have nine medals - three gold, three silver and three bronze.

In the under-23 women’s team sprint, Sophie Capewell and Megan Barker took sixth while in the junior women’s team pursuit Britain narrowly missed out on bronze.

Anna Docherty, Jenny Holl, Jess Roberts and Lauren Dolan completed the 4000m in 4:40.420, less than two seconds slow Russia.

Mark Stewart could not add to his individual pursuit gold despite a strong effort for fifth in the under-23 scratch race. Ali Fielding was 12th in the junior men’s kilo in a time of 1:05.847.  

Day three of six of the championships takes place on Thursday.
