The Great Britain Cycling Team are in action in France this weekend for the 2017 UEC BMX European Championships.

14 British riders have been named in the squad with the world championships in the USA just two weeks away.

A mixture of experienced stars and promising youngsters will represent their country in Bordeaux chasing podium places and European titles.

The team

Elite men

2017 UEC BMX European Cup winner Kyle Evans will take to the French track as one of the major favourites following his tremendous recent form on the continent.

The championships present a major opportunity to Evans to test himself on the world stage just weeks before the UCI BMX World Championships in Rock Hill, USA later this month.

Alongside Evans in the elite men’s category is Tre Whyte, now also selected to represent Great Britain Cycling Team at the world championships following the injury to Liam Phillips.

Junior men

Three junior men have been selected for Bordeaux, with Kye Whyte another looking to ride himself into form ahead of the world championships.

Alongside Whyte, Euan Hunt and Tian Isidore will race for Great Britain Cycling Team - with Hunt and Isidore hoping to add to the silver and bronze medals they won at under-16 level at last year’s European championships in Italy.

Junior women

All eyes will be on Beth Shriever in the junior women’s races - the young British rider having won five rounds of the European Cup series while also reaching a final in this season’s elite women’s UCI BMX Supercross World Cup.

Blaine Ridge-Davis - who has also raced in the elite women’s category at this year’s world cup - completes the junior women’s line-up.

Under-16 men

Ross Cullen is the standout name in the three-strong Great Britain Cycling Team line-up for the under-16 men’s races.

The Junior Academy rider won three rounds of the European Cup on his way to second place overall in the 15/16 boys category and will be joined in France by Tyrell Cooper-Nelson and Nathan Wood.

Under-16 women

Four riders have been selected for the under-16 women’s competition with Elissa Bradford, Maddie Owen-Matthews, Libby Smith and Eleana Stafford set for Bordeaux.

Stafford was the best performer of the group in this season’s European Cup, finishing 12th overall - with all riders claiming top 30 finishes.

The course

Bordeaux is a port city on the Garonne river in southwestern France, well known for being the world capital of wine.

Races will take place on a temporary track built on the Esplanade des Quinconces - a square in the city centre of Bordeaux, with a five-metre start hill for all classes.

The championships form part of a festival of BMX in Bordeaux with the French national championships having taken place last weekend.
