Great Britain Cycling Team’s Lora Turnham and Corinne Hall won their second world cup silver medals of the weekend on the closing day of the UCI Para-cycling Road World Cup in Belgium.

The tandem pair followed up on silver in Friday’s time trial with the same result in the road race – beaten to the gold for the second time by the Irish pairing of Katie-George Dunlevy and Eve McCrystal in a thrilling sprint finish.

It was an impressive performance from Turnham and Hall who found themselves a considerable distance behind the leading pack after the first few laps.

But with 30km remaining of the 66.8km race, they lead the charge to close the gap, ultimately heading the field at times in the closing laps.

Eight pairs were in the hunt for all three medals in a dramatic final sprint, with the Irish pair coming out on top for the second time of the world cup weekend.

In the men’s tandem race, Steve Bate and Adam Duggleby missed out on a second bronze medal of the weekend in the final sprint.

The pair, who claimed time trial bronze on Friday found themselves in a multi-team battle for bronze – with the Brits unfortunate not to take third place.

Earlier in the day, Megan Giglia finished third in the C3 road race, missing out on a medal due to finishing outside the time limit, with Germany’s Denise Schindler taking the gold.

Simon Price took fourth in the C2 road race, beaten to the medal places in a seven-man sprint for second and third, with Canadian Tristen Chernove racing away to take gold by almost three minutes. Teenager Louis Rolfe finished 15th in the same race.

Jon Gildea took 6th in the C5 road race, with Jaco van Gass abandoning his C4 road race in the closing stages.

Across the weekend in Belgium, Great Britain Cycling Team won seven medals in total - four silver and three bronze at the last major event before team selection for the Rio Paralympic Games
