Cumbernauld BMX Club welcomes the 2016 British Cycling BMX Series for rounds five and six after making its debut in 2015.
The track in North Lanarkshire is the third venue to host this year’s series, after the National Cycling Centre in Manchester and Perry Park in Birmingham.
How it works
Riders earn points based on their finishing position at each round of the series. A rider’s best seven results from a possible 12 rounds makes up their total. The rider collecting the most points in their respective category is crowned the series champion.
Entrants
Superclass
Great Britain Cycling Team duo Tre Whyte and Quillan Isidore are notable names on the entry list. Of the two Peckham Challengers BMX Club riders, only Isidore has featured so far racing at rounds three and four though he missed out on the win on both occasions.
Both riders come into domestic action from the UCI BMX Supercross World Cup in Papendal, where Whyte exited in qualifying and Isidore in the motos.
Kye Whyte currently leads the rankings on 299 points after four solid results while Tian Isidore sits behind him on 290.5 points
Preston Pirates rider Euan Hunt and Manchester BMX Club’s Calum Strickland will also be in the mix.
Championship women
T.N.T’s Bethany Shriver arrives in Scotland in commanding form, winning all four rounds to date.
The 16-year-old, selected in the Great Britain Cycling Team for the UCI BMX World Championships later this month, has been a class apart and will start as favourite.
Emily Green, Lauren Stack and Charlie Hartwell will be among those trying to halt Shriver’s run.
Venue
Opened in July 2014, Cumbernauld Centurions BMX Club’s international standard track cost £420,000. Floodlit and hosting events up to and including Pro Circuit and Youth Olympic level, it will now host its second British BMX Series race.
