Wyman 14th in Vegas as UCI Cyclo-cross World Cup begins

Helen Wyman was the top placed British rider at CrossVegas, the opening round of the 2015/16 UCI Cyclo-cross World Cup, which took place at Las Vegas’ Desert Breeze Soccer Complex on Wednesday.

Nine-time British champion Wyman, riding for the Kona Factory team, crossed the line in 14th place, one minute and 43 seconds behind race winner, Katerina Nash from Czech Republic, riding for the Luna Pro Team.

Italian Eva Lechner (Team Colnago Sudtirol) was second with 2014/15 world cup winner Sanne Cant of Belgium taking third.

Britain’s Hannah Payton was 27th, three minutes and 34 seconds back with Gabby Durrin 32nd, four minutes and 24 seconds down. Amira Mellor was 38th over seven minutes behind Nash.

Ian Field battled to 26th after crashing twice in an elite men’s race won by Belgium’s Wout van Aert, with veteran Sven Nys second and Michael Vanthourenhout completing an all-Belgian podium.

Britain’s Hugo Robinson finished 61st, two laps adrift of the winner.

Round two of the series takes place at Valkenberg, Netherlands on 18 October and sees the start of the series for under-23 and junior men.
