Following further discussion in light of initial feedback on proposed changes to the youth competition structure across cycling, the Board of British Cycling has announced a consultation process to address the specific challenges affecting BMX.

At its 24 June meeting, the Board acknowledged the positive feedback received across all disciplines, but recognised that there were specific concerns relating to BMX that needed to be addressed. The board resolved to establish a BMX Youth Review meeting in July to examine these in detail.

The meeting will bring together the BMX Commission, representation from the wider BMX community at a regional and club level, British Cycling technical staff and the Great Britain Cycling Team. The meeting will consider the feedback received and work through the current proposals to find a way forward that strengthens BMX at all levels and carries the confidence of those involved in the sport. The outcome of the meeting will be published in full.

The announcement marks the next phase of British Cycling’s work to strengthen age-appropriate competition at all levels and in all disciplines of the sport. Feedback on initial proposals published on 1 June is encouraged by British Cycling and should be sent to youthworkgroup@britishcycling.org.uk
