British Cycling’s Breeze Challenge Events will bring a new dimension to the programme in 2015, after announcing Cancer Research UK as their official charity partner.

Breeze Challenge Events are exclusively for women and were launched successfully in 2014 with more than 800 women taking part. This year events are scheduled to take place in Lancashire (4 October) and Warwickshire (20 September) as well as visiting Windsor (23 August) for the first time.

As one of the world’s leading charities, Cancer Research UK will add their support to the Breeze Challenge Events which are helping more women get involved in cycling.

British Cycling’s Women’s Cycling manager, Natalie Justice, said:

“We’re delighted that Cancer Research UK have agreed to come on board as the charity partner for Breeze Challenge Events. Cancer will affect everybody at some point in their lives, whether being diagnosed themselves or through a friend or loved one, and if the participants at this year’s Breeze Challenge Events can make even a small contribution to this great cause it can make a massive difference.”

Cancer Research UK is dedicated to beating cancer, funding research into more than 200 types of cancer. Women interested in supporting their efforts can join Team CRUK and raise money for this great cause while taking part in the Breeze Challenge Events.

Kathryn Hurrell, Sports Team Manager, Cancer Research UK said:

“Cancer Research UK is very excited to be the official charity partner for Breeze Challenge Events 2015. The support of all the Breeze riders will help us bring forward the day that all 200 types of cancers are cured. One in two people are diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime, but we are tackling this on every front by taking research from the lab straight to a patient’s bedside. Join Team CRUK and set up your fundraising page today as we will cross that finish line together and we will beat cancer sooner.”

Three years ago Joanne Jackson was diagnosed with breast cancer. At only 39 years of age, it understandably came as a big shock to Joanne and her family. However Joanne was determined to conquer this illness, and squeeze even more from life in the future.

Despite not having cycled for over 30 years, the buzz of riding a Breeze Challenge event with so many likeminded women prompted Joanne to sign up for further cycling events, including Cycle Africa and Cycle Tanzania.

“I didn’t even own a bike before, and now I was planning cycling events abroad – to think I said no one would ever catch me on a bike! It just shows how addictive cycling can be.”

“Breeze rides were just great for keeping the training up. Everything I’d heard about the support and social side of things was just fantastic. The ride goes at a pace that suits all riders, and it’s great to see ladies of all ages, shapes and sizes having fun on their bikes.”
