Great Britain Cycling Team began the Energiewacht Tour in the Netherlands on Wednesday evening with a 2.5-kilometre prologue time trial in Winsum.
Emily Kay was the fastest of the Great Britain contingent, who ride the event alongside a number of trade and national teams. Kay finished 42nd in a time of 3:34.88, 19 seconds behind stage winner Anna van der Breggen of Rabo Liv Women Cycling Team.
Manon Lloyd was next, in 73rd position while mountain bikers Alice Barnes and Annie Last were 80th and 88th respectively. Emily Nelson was 100th, 32 seconds down on the winning time while Bethany Crumpton rounded out the Great Britain Cycling Team representation in 115th, 37 seconds off the winner’s pace.
Top British finisher was Lizzie Armitstead, riding for Boels Dolmans Cycling Team, who took 15th place, 12 seconds down on van der Breggen.
The race moves on to Westerwolde today for a 105-kilometre stage and continues until 12 April.
The junior edition of the race begins today at Westerwolde, with the younger riders facing a shorter 77.2-kilometre stage. Megan Barker, Rebecca Raybould, Abigail Dentus and Ffion James represent Great Britain.
