A new non-executive director has been appointed to British Cycling’s board, the national governing body for cycling announced today.

A former president and chief executive of Volkswagen Group of America and managing director of Jaguar Cars, Jonathan Browning has over 30 years experience leading businesses on a global scale.

Browning’s wide-ranging experience of delivering significant revenue growth as well as his ability to lead on large-scale marketing strategies will be fundamental to the board’s work in steering British Cycling towards increased sustainability.

A keen cyclist, Browning is also passionate about economic growth and creating better places to live. His current role as non-executive chairman for Coventry and Warwickshire’s Local Enterprise Partnership involves bringing together the private and public sectors to lead the development and implementation of plans for economic growth and job creation in the region.

Announcing the news British Cycling’s president Bob Howden said: “I am delighted to have Jonathan Browning join our board. He is not only a highly experienced business leader with significant commercial expertise but is also extremely passionate about cycling.

“I am confident that his solid expertise will help ensure the growth of our fantastic sport and our ability to ensure that we maximise the opportunities that the increasing popularity of cycling brings.”

Jonathan Browning said: “This is an exciting role that combines my experience of leading commercial and marketing strategies with my passion for cycling. I look forward to getting involved in making the most of the public’s appetite for cycling to ensure that British Cycling thrives for many years to come. As chairman of a Local Economic Partnership, I am also interested to contribute to the sports governing body’s work to help transform Britain into a true cycling nation.”

The post is for a three-year term, effective from 1 April 2015.
