Welwyn Wheelers and CC Ashwell combined to run the Muddy Monsters Go-Ride Racing Cyclo-Cross series for novice riders with three rounds in February and March.
Each round consisted of a scratch race followed by a handicap race based on the previous performances. The final round was held at Welwyn Track on Saturday 9 March. The challenging and muddy circuit used the banks overlooking the track to great affect.
In the under 10’s category it was consistent performances by Louis D’Cruze of Whitehill School that gained him the scratch race overall series win.
Zoe Swainston of Colchester Rovers was best girl. Kieran Higham of Welwyn Wheelers was the handicap series winner with Swainston again the best girl.
The under 12’s category was dominated by Adam Lightfoot of CC Ashwell who won all three rounds. Not content with that he won the U12/U14 handicap series with two wins and a second place.
Sophie Saberton, Lauren Higham and Harley Pell had close battles all series for the U12 girls title with Sophie Saberton prevailing.
Joe Ward and Holly Proctor won the boys and girls under 14’s series respectively. There was some close fought racing with different winners in each round.
