British Cycling and Sky aim to get 1 million more people cycling by 2013 and getting commuters out of their cars and onto two wheels is a big part of that ambition. We know that commuting by bike is great for our bodies, our cities and our planet, but what is British Cycling doing for bike commuters?

Bike Maintenance Workshops

One of the biggest fears of potential bike commuters is that of being stranded miles from home with a flat tyre, a snapped chain or a wobbly wheel. However, with the right tools and a some essential skills, you'll be back on the road in no time. With this in mind, we have a range of introductory, intermediate and advanced Bike Maintenance Workshops delivered by former GB Team mechanic Pete Taylor and his expert colleagues at Pro Tool School. The workshops start at just £45 for the half-day introductory course, with FREE Ride Membership (or 10% off for existing members) and include everything you need to know to fix your bike at the roadside and keep it in good shape for the daily grind. Cycle Training

British Cycling Cycle Training offers nationally accredited Bikeability training to both children and adults, giving them the skills and confidence to cycle to school or to work. We have a growing network of qualified trainers who can deliver cycle training at schools, workplaces and other organisations, starting from Level 1 for absolute beginners, through to Level 3, which gives you the skills and confidence to tackle anything that modern road conditions can throw at you.

Workplaces

At British Cycling we understand that targetting employers is key to getting the nation commuting by bike. Cycling has a huge role to play in building happy, healthy, motivated, green and sustainable workplaces. British Cycling can bring the fun and inspiration of Britain's most successful Olympic sport and our unparalleled expertise to companies and organisations, large and small. The key to our programme is that is goes far beyond cycle commuting. Instead we take a wide, more inclusive approach to creating a cycling workplace. British Cycling: Workplaces is centred on the fun of cycling, where employees are supported and can enjoy cycling to work, at work and at home with friends and family.

Advocacy and Support

We want to see more people take to the streets on two wheels and our Legal Affairs team are working tirelessly to lobby and influence Government strategy on cycling policy, infrastructure and cyclists' rights. Plus our specialist team of cycling solicitors are on-hand to help our members in the event of a cycling accident.
