British Cycling’s President Brian Cookson OBE has been put forward by the European Cycling Union (UEC) to be re-elected to the UCI Management Commission following a UEC congress meeting in Paris.

Cookson was selected from 11 European candidates to stand for a second term as the UEC’s representative on the UCI Management Committee from September.

Cookson has sat on the UCI’s Management Committee for the last four years and is currently President of the Road Commission. Speaking after the announcement, he said: “I was delighted to receive the support of my European colleagues for my candidacy.

“If honoured with re-election at the UCI Congress in September, I hope to continue working for the worldwide health of the sport and, particularly at this troubled time, for the transparent and effective governance of our international federation.”

Brian’s appointment was followed by the nomination of British Cycling’s Vice Chairman Charlie Jackson as one of 14 European Members to the UCI Congress.

Jackson said of the announcement: “I am pleased to support Brian in his nomination for his position on the UCI Management Committee and I’m looking forward to working with him and the rest of the European cycling community for the positive development of our sport.”
