The primary objective of the Great Britain Cycling Team is to achieve the highest number of podium results at the next Olympic and Paralympic Games. All GBCT strategic decisions, including major event attendance, are made in alignment with achieving this objective.

The Covid-19 pandemic and the delayed Tokyo 2020 Games have resulted in increased budget and staff resource pressures which bring with them limitations on the level & quantity of activity we are able to commit to.  GBCT will continue to deploy available resources in a manner which the GBCT believes will meet its primary objective.

As a result of the above, GBCT will not be attending the UEC European Road Championships scheduled to take place from 8th - 12th September in Trento.

Budget and staff resource will be focussed on the UCI Road World Championships in Flanders, taking place from 19th - 26th September. The selection policy is now live on the British Cycling website, complete with updated information on how Expressions of Interest can be submitted for the Mixed Team Time Trial Event. Note that riders should not expect British Cycling to meet all the costs of their participation in this event.

Similarly, GBCT will not be attending the UCI Junior Track World Championships in Egypt this year, with the UEC Junior and Under-23 European Track Championships in Apeldoorn, from 17th - 22nd August to be the focus. An informal team selection will take place for this in due course.

It remains GBCT’s intent to attend the UCI BMX Supercross World Championships, the UCI Mountain Bike World Championships and the UCI Track Cycling World Championships (pending qualification decision by UCI).

GBCT will also attend the UEC European Track Championships and the UEC European Cyclo-cross Championships, with informal selections taking place for both ahead of the respective events.
