British Cycling can today confirm that the second round of the 2021 HSBC UK | National Circuit Series in Barnsley has sadly been cancelled at the request of event organiser, following discussions with local authorities.

As a result of the cancellation, the LOGCO Otley Cycle Races are now the only remaining rounds in both the men’s and women’s series, however British Cycling is continuing to work towards adding an additional round into both the men’s and women’s series.

As a result of not being able to host this year’s Barnsley Town Centre Races, organiser Chris Lawrence has planned two additional National B racing opportunities. The event – named The Barnsley (Not in the Town Centre) Races – will take place on the Hade Edge Carlecotes course above the Holme Valley on Sunday 18 July 2021.

Event organiser, Chris Lawrence, said:

“Although it is unfortunate that we are unable to deliver the town centre races this year, it is a privilege to attract each year the best cycling talent this country has to the streets of our town. That said, we are really excited to deliver our fill-in race on a real racing course in the spectacular setting of Hade Edge near Holmfirth.

“The Barnsley Road Club, with the support of British Cycling Yorkshire, will strive to make this a brilliant event. A personal appeal to those around the country – if you think a new race should exist, then it can happen! People reading this should work with your friends, your clubs and your British Cycling region to do so.”
