We regret to announce that the 2020 National Masters Track Championships, which was due to take place in Newport from 3 - 6 December 2020, has been cancelled.

British Cycling has been working with the event organiser and venue over recent months to explore potential ways in which the championships can be delivered, however to ensure the safety of riders, coaches and officials the decision has now been taken to cancel the event.

Event organiser, Graham Bristow, said:

“I am deeply saddened that it has proven impossible to run the championships under the present circumstances.  When we rescheduled the championships from June to December we did so in the optimistic belief that we would be able to successfully deliver the championships and give a focus to the many Masters who have continued training throughout this difficult time.”

Track Cycling Development Officer for Newport Live, Garrie Tillett, said:

“While we are disappointed we will not be welcoming the Masters this year, we fully support this decision which has been made in the best interests of the safety of riders and officials. We hope that the Welsh Government restrictions will continue to ease allowing a gradual return to activity here at the Geraint Thomas National Velodrome of Wales and we look forward to an even better event in 2021.”

Earlier this month, British Cycling announced that club and coach-led activity taking place in indoor facilities in England can resume with immediate effect, following discussions with the UK’s five indoor velodrome operators. It is hoped that the suspension of indoor competition can be lifted on Monday 28 September, to allow track leagues to resume.
