Thrifty Competition Terms and Conditions

  1. The promoter is: Thrifty Car and Van Ltd whose registered office is at Scot House, Matford Park Road, Matford Business Park, Exeter, EX2 8AW.
  2. The competition is open to residents of the United Kingdom aged 25 years or over except employees of Thrifty Car and Van Rental and their close relatives and anyone otherwise connected with the organisation or judging of the competition.
  3. There is no entry fee and no purchase necessary to enter this competition.
  4. By entering this competition, an entrant is indicating his/her agreement to be bound by these terms and conditions.

  6. Only one entry will be accepted per person. Multiple entries from the same person will be disqualified.
  7. Closing date for entry will be [19/10/2020]. After this date the no further entries to the competition will be permitted.
  8. No responsibility can be accepted for entries not received for whatever reason.

  10. The promoter reserves the right to cancel or amend the competition and these terms and conditions without notice in the event of a catastrophe, war, civil or military disturbance, act of God or any actual or anticipated breach of any applicable law or regulation or any other event outside of the promoter’s control. Any changes to the competition will be notified to entrants as soon as possible by the promoter.
  11. The promoter is not responsible for inaccurate prize details supplied to any entrant by any third party connected with this competition.
  12. The prize is as follows: Free x2 day hire of a BMW 3 Series Estate vehicle on a weekend of your choice to be collected on a Friday from 1pm and returned on Monday by 12pm. The prize is as stated and no cash or other alternatives will be offered. The prizes are not transferable. Prizes are subject to availability and we reserve the right to substitute any prize with another of equivalent value without giving notice.
  13. Terms of rental as follows: Driver must be over the age of 25. The driver’s licence & ID will need to be in line with our requirements*. The driver of the vehicle will be responsible for fuel and should refill the tank at the end of the hire. Driver will be responsible for damage. Driver will be responsible for PCNs. The competition is to win the hire of an BMW 3 Series Estate for the weekend. A fully refundable deposit of £250 to cover the three above points still applies.
  14. Winners will be chosen at random by software, from all entries received and verified by Promoter and or its agents.
  15. The winner will be notified by Facebook Messenger within 28 days of the closing date. If the winner cannot be contacted or do not claim the prize within 14 days of notification, we reserve the right to withdraw the prize from the winner and pick a replacement winner.
  16. The winner will have until 31st December 2020 to redeem their prize
  17. By entering this competition, an entrant is indicating his/her agreement to be bound by these terms and conditions.
  18. The competition and these terms and conditions will be governed by [English] law and any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of [England].

*Driving Licence Requirements

Anyone who will be driving the Thrifty vehicle must present a valid driving licence with their current address in person, at the time of collection. No copies of licences will be accepted. On collection of vehicle, renter must produce:

  • a valid driving licence - we cannot accept an expired photocard
  • 2 additional forms of ID confirming home address as shown on driving licence (e.g. utilities bill, bank statement, must have been issued to driver within 8 weeks of date of hire) plus
  • a credit or debit card in their own name for £250 deposit (fully refundable if vehicle comes back full of fuel and free of damage)
  • Additional drivers must present a valid driving licence as above

Drivers must have held a full driving licence for at least 12 months. Licence endorsements up to 9 points are accepted. If the driver has been banned from driving for a DD, DR or UT offence, or has been disqualified for 12 months or more, we will only rent 5 years or more after the return of the licence.

All drivers presenting a UK driving licence (card licence or paper licence) need to provide evidence of their current endorsements at the time of renting - this includes any additional drivers. The counterpart to the driving licence was abolished in 2015 (excluding licences issued in Northern Ireland) and DVLA provide an online facility for drivers to view and share their licence history. Drivers may either provide a paper copy of their licence history, obtained from the DVLA website no more than 21 days before the rental start, or the code provided by the DVLA on their website (screenshots of licence history are not accepted).

To generate the code or the print out, all drivers must visit the DVLA website on Drivers will be required to input their NI number, driving licence number and postcode to view their history.

If you do not have a printer, and will be providing the code, please ensure it is written down exactly as on the screen. Thrifty staff will enter this code to the DVLA website in order to view your current endorsements. Thrifty locations will also have the facility for you to obtain the code once in the rental office – however, you will still need your NI number to do so.
