Lora Fachie nominated for Inspirational Guide Dog Owner of the Year Award

Lora Fachie has been recognised for a year which saw her become a Paralympic champion with a nomination for Inspirational Guide Dog Owner of the Year Award.

Lora, and her pilot Corrine Hall enjoyed an outstanding 2016. They started the year with a bronze medal in the tandem pursuit at the 2016 UCI Para-cycling Track World Championships in Italy and followed this up with two silver medals at the UCI Para-cycling Road World Cup in Belgium which was enough to secure their selection for Lora’s second Paralympic Games.

Lora Fachie and Corrine Hall win gold in Rio They progressed smoothly to the gold medal ride in the tandem pursuit on the track and broke the Paralympic record in the process of winning the title, before adding a bronze medal in the time-trial on the road.

Throughout all of Lora’s success, not only in 2016, but over the past 12 years has been her faithful guide dog Libby.

“The last year was undoubtedly the best year of my life,” said Lora.

“Winning a Paralympic gold medal alongside Corrine was a dream come true. I couldn’t have achieved my goals without the help of so many people but the one constant by my side has been Libby. I honestly don’t think I could have done it without her.”

Voting is now open for the award with the winner announced at the Guide Dogs Annual Awards 2017 on Wednesday 17 May.
