British Cycling, in partnership with UK Sport’s Gold Event Series and Lee Valley Regional Park Authority, is urging fans to take advantage of remaining tickets for December’s UCI Track Cycling World Cup in London, as a sell-out of Saturday night’s final sessions is announced.

Since the Great Britain Cycling Team’s track success at London 2012, when they took home nine medals, major sessions at Track World Cup events in the UK have been swift sell outs. Cycling fans are being encouraged to book now for the remaining Friday, Saturday day and Sunday sessions to avoid disappointment if they want to see the GB stars take to the velodrome at Lee Valley VeloPark.

Olympic gold medallist and Lee Valley VeloPark ambassador, Laura Trott, said of the event: “The Lee Valley VeloPark is such an iconic venue for cycling in the UK and it will be something truly special when the UCI Track Cycling World Cup comes to London.

“Growing up not far from the venue, I’ve been overwhelmed by the support people in London and around the UK have shown for cycling since 2012.

“It’s great to see so many fans have already secured their place at the Track World Cup this year and I hope to be back in the velodrome in December, reliving those unforgettable moments to another roaring crowd.”

Jonny Clay, British Cycling’s cycle sport and membership director, added: “It’s been great to see the response from fans for what promises to be another action packed UCI Track Cycling World Cup. Yet again the atmosphere in the velodrome is going to be unforgettable as Britain gets the chance to feel the adrenaline of the London 2012 host venue”.

The event is part of UK Sport’s Gold Event Series, a £27million National Lottery funded initiative which aims to bring up to 70 world class sporting events to the UK by 2019.

Simon Morton, UK Sport’s director of major events and international relations, said: "UK Sport has been working with British Cycling for many years to bring world class events to this country and it is incredibly satisfying to see how the sport has grown in that time.

“The Gold Events Series is about giving people the opportunity to witness first-hand the inspirational power of sport as well as giving our athletes the best possible preparation on their road to Rio 2016.”

“The combination of outstanding venues such as the Lee Valley VeloPark, technical know-how, passionate fans and thousands of experienced volunteers mean the UK is recognised as one of the best places in the world to stage international sport as we build toward the next Olympic and Paralympic Games.”

The event will take place from 5-7 December in the velodrome at Lee Valley VeloPark at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and will be the second round of the 2014/15 world cup series.

The competition provides a showcase for some of the best track racing on the planet and will see Great Britain’s elite cyclists going head to head with a host of international cycling stars as they compete for international ranking points that will determine their qualification for the 2015 UCI Track Cycling World Championships and Rio Olympic Games in 2016.

Although the Saturday night session is now sold out, tickets for the UCI Track Cycling World Cup London, including final races on Sunday night, are available for general purchase through Ticketmaster now.
