The Disability Sport Wales (FDSW) Cycling Academy kicked off the hand cycling program with entries into the Lllanelli 10K, (www.llanelli10k.co.uk).

The 10K course is listed as one of the top races in the country, with its fast and flat course with a route that leads right through the beautiful and scenic coastal park.

FDSW riders Marc Poolman (Bridgend) and John Osborne (Caerphilly) made the short trip down to Llanelli. Compared to the European events Marc regularly competes in this was a home turf!

The sheltered calm of the start line was in total contrast to the strong head wind along beautiful and scenic Millennium Coastal Path.

As the riders battled the strong headwinds it was Marc Poolman who showed his strength establishing almost a two minute lead at the half way point.

Although having only recently returned from injury Marc maintained his lead to win by an overall margin of 4 minutes 54 seconds from his fellow Welshman in 2nd place John Osborne.

The exposed coastal course certainly proved a challenge on the day, but all the FDSW riders enjoyed the competition. With the new regular weekly training sessions at the Maindy cycle track in Cardiff, the FDSW program is looking to grow in strength over summer.
