Ruby Miller takes U16 event at Mallory Park, Leicestershire

The cold and wet near arctic conditions saw a frantic start to the Youth girls event, with over twenty starters sprinting to the first corner. Maindy Flyers' Miller made sure of avoiding any first lap problems by mixing it among the first three, as the atrocious conditions saw riders struggle to stay upright behind.

The race took shape with Lucy Garner (Leicestershire RC), Hannah Barnes (Palmer Park Velo) and Miller all attacking and counter attacking, but with no rider capable of establishing a worthwhile lead. Eventually Barnes slowly dropped back, allowing the other two to race for the win.

As the conditions again worsened, Miller took to the front on the tricky grass switchback section of the course, hopping on and off her bike with ease and opening a few seconds lead before the final straight.

Knowing that Garner, the stronger sprinter who pipped Miller at the last round in Ipswich, was chasing a few seconds behind, the young Cardiff rider gave a final drive for the line to win by a few bike lengths from Barnes, with Garner rolling in behind.

The result sees Miller up to second in the overall standings with the final two rounds at Bradford and Derby renowned for similarly adverse conditions as endured at Mallory.
