Rhyl CC's 'Cross at the Cob'
Spectators of the Rhyl CC 'Cross at the Cob' on Sunday were treated to an exciting exhibition of cyclo-cross by riders of all ages, in the first of hopefully an annual event at Marsh Road in Rhyl.
The main race for seniors/veterans/juniors/women was a close affair, with second-placed Anthony Farrell (Alf Jones Cycles) just failing to claw back the advantage of Chris Purt (mtbwales.co.uk),who crossed the line 14 seconds clear after 47 minutes of hard and sometimes very muddy racing. Third and fourth places also went to MTB Wales riders in a good team showing, Ifan Rhys and David Proctor. Best of the home club was Richard Mills, 6th and best veteran, Luke Beswick (Buxton CC) was best junior just ahead of him, and Lucy Marshall (Stendec Racing) was a deserving womens winner in 19th place.
The On Track Bikes under 12's was a keenly contested race, and Dylan Kerfoot-Robson (Rhos-On-Sea CC) proved the dominant force, leading from start to finish in the 10 minute race to cross the line 1 minute and 8 seconds clear of Pwllheli's Eben Rees. Third was Damien Farrell (Alf Jones Cycles) with Rhyl CC's Sam Mills just beating VC Melyd's Tom Sharpe to fourth place at 1-45 down on the winner.
South Wales visitor Molly Sander (Cardiff 100 Miles) made a very worthwhile trip, winning the On Track Bikes Youth race just ahead of Rhyl CC's Louis Needs and Michael-John Harvey of Rhos-On-Sea CC.
The event was enabled by Denbighshire County Council.
