Cross at the Cob - Glan Morfa

' Rhyl Cycling Club's Cyclo-Cross event at Glan Morfa Country Park, Rhyl, on Sunday produced a tremendous tussle between some of the seniors as the finale to a successful Rhyl Town Council supported day aided by Denbighshire County Council.

David Griffiths (Paramount CRC) from Shropshire held off a fast closing Pentrellyncymer 19 year old Anthony Farrell (Alf Jones Cycles) in the 1 hour long senior event to win by just six seconds, with Rhyl CC hope Conan Mayman taking sixth place in his first 'Cross at the Cob'.

In the veteran event included within that race there were several local faces with Andy Bryce (Deeside Olympic) taking third behind winner Andy Duffield (Paramount CRC), Prestatyn's Mark Baker was fourth, and Jonathan Hughes, Mark Bancroft and Paul Ward also placing well further down the field. Ben Goddard (Newport Salop CC) took the juniors after an eventful ride that included a meeting with the course marking tape on a muddy section.

A welcome large contingent from South Wales made the trip north worthwhile with successes for Nathan Ford (Abergavenny RC, U10 boys), and Megan and Ffion James (both Abergavenny RC, U10 + U12 girls) Deeside Olympic’s Ben Matthews impressed in the U16 boys, taking on Shropshire lads Chris Wilkinson (North Shropshire Wheelers) and Alex Webb (Mid-Shropshire Wheelers) who were beaten by 30 seconds and a minute in a closely fought contest, including a spill for Ben in front of his mum Sam while leading, who was marshalling at that spot!

Local successes came in the U14 boys with Dylan Kerfoot-Robson (Rhos-on-Sea CC) first and Sam Mills (Rhyl CC) fifth, and Rhyl CC's Christian Smith was second in the U10 boys.Rhyl Mayoress Cllr Jeanette Chamberlain-Jones waved the starting flag for a number of the races and will be present again on Sun 21st December when the club hosts the North West England League at the same venue.'
