East Newport vs Filton
Posted 04/06/08
East Newport Cycle Speedway Team raced their sixth
South West Division 1 match of the season away at Filton
Missing five first choice riders it appeared to be an almost
impossible task that the team would gain any points from the
fixture.
A good start enabled the side to establish an early six point
lead only for all their hard work to be undone by some poor
decisions by the match referee resulting in the East Enders
entering the interval six points down.
An early second half race advantage enabled the side to reduce
their arrears & with some determined riding from each member
of the side the team entered the final race guaranteed at least
a share of the points.
The race started and for one lap East Newport's Gilbert Davis
& Aaron Hughes occupied the minor placings, this quickly
changed when Davis was bought off his bike Filton's Paul Gibbs
which resulted in the home rider being excluded for legging.
Every rider played their part in securing the East Enders third
successive victory with the performances of the teams number 1
rider Ryan Hughes, Gilbert Davis & youngsters Aaron Hughes,
Louis Harvey each deserving a special mention.
The victory now gives the team a real chance of finishing in the
top half of this years South West Division One.

East Newport Cycle Speedway u18 took on local
rivals Newport u18 in a South West Conference League
fixture at their Underwood circuit.
After all the politics on whether Mark Carmichael should
ride for Newport, when his first named club Horspath from
Oxford was in action was sorted out the action was a close
affair, & only 2 points separated the sides with 3 races to go.
Then uncharacteristic tape exclusions for Josh Davis heat 13,
& Jez Clark heat 14 was the turning point in this exciting derby.
For the East Enders Captain Aaron Hughes was in top form
dropping only 1 point on his way to a 19 point haul & was well
supported by Ryan Roberts 12+1, Louis Harvey 13 & Jez Clark
13+1.
East Newport's next home fixture is on Sunday 25th May
against Swindon at 2pm in a South West Division 1 encounter.

Manager Nigel Clark who scored 16+1 said Matt Davis 14+1
Dale Clark 13+4, Captain Ryan Hughes 16+2 had solid

took a nasty fall in heat 12 & after a visit to the hospital he
required 4 stitches to his left leg & will be out of action for the
away fixture against Filton next week.
