Birmingham 95 East Newport 83
Posted: 2nd April 2007
On a windswept sunny afternoon East Newport were entertained by a full strength Birmingham team full of talent. The whole of the match was raced in good spirit, which could've been a showcase event for the sport.
Birmingham's new track looked fresh and rejuvenated after its extensive work with new bends, banking and centre green but one deciding factor was the surface. Not enough time for it to bed in left if loose but favoured neither side.
The home team adapted better and had the cut of the luck but they had to work hard for the win. The lead changed hands 5 times throughout and wasn't won until heat 17. Comeback man Nicky Evans raised the rafters with a well crafted win in one of races and Ryan Jones showed what great class he had pushing Premier Leagues riders all the way. Dale Clark had a stormer of a match, as did Kieran Jones who was unlucky to receive 2 exclusions. Nigel Clark showed he has retained all his race knowledge with some gritty performances. Mike Rice was unlucky not to increase his score but played a great support role. Matt Davis showed that he has the pace to compete at the top but needs to put the power down on the track and convert effort into points. Andy Cobley impressed with some gutsy moves but struggled on the loose track.

ENCSC 2nd team were made April Fools & suffered totally annihilation in the Div 2 match against what could've been another first team for Brum. The young riders did well but lost each race 7-3 apart from two 6-4's against and a 5-5 drawn race.
Both teams tracked separate teams with East Newport maintaining their 100% separate second team record. The club has now started to recruit new riders to fill the swelling ranks ready for their Clubmark accreditation soon to be arranged.
