East Newport CSC V Monarchs

Posted: 6th March 2007

In a match that was ridden in continuous winter rain both sides did extremely well to make it through to the end.

The home team, packing most of their winter signings but missing young star Ryan Hughes, were impressive in every race but let's not take anything away from the Monarchs.  Having split to give a balanced race to all their riders they were clearly under strength but my God what talent their youngsters have with a fearless show of determination!  However the day belonged to the Welsh team and their dominance showed with only four of the heats fronted by visiting riders.  Monarchs only heat win was kept to the final heat after an exclusion (the only one) to a home rider.

Ryan Jones scored an impressive maximum score in his debut match for the club and his brother showed promise especially in the second half.  Mike Rice displayed some vintage grit on his new machinery while the two poles Lucasz Jozwiak and Pawel Cegielski looked at home in the team with determined races.  Reserves Andy Cobley and Nigel Clark gave the team strength right through and this strength was never under threat.
