Shadowing opportunities for Welsh Club Coaches at an elite level

To improve the quality of coaching in Wales there needs to be a push from a club level all the way to elite level.

The start of this comes with a great opportunity thanks to British Cycling who are allowing active club coaches to shadow and help out with some squad training camps in South Wales throughout the winter. (Places are limited!) This will enable coaches to learn from the very best in Britain, picking up training tips as well as session planning and delivery with some elite level cyclists. This can then be reproduced with a similar programme back at a club level thus advancing the grass roots of Welsh Cycling.

The Abergavenny road camp will be December 20th-23rd and the Newport track camps 3rd-8th February (pursuit), 14th- 20th February (track and road).

Also James Taylor, Wales Olympic Talent Coach is offering a drop in session for youth A,B&C riders on Thursday 13th December at Newport Velodrome. This will also be another opportunity for coaches to come along and watch and learn from one of Britain’s up and coming coaches.

There are also other varied opportunities for coaches to improve their own skills and gain qualifications through Welsh & British Cycling, including child protection, injury prevention, fuelling for performance, goal setting, along with the more advanced Level 1&2 Coaching Accreditation.
