On your bike!' says Melin Homes
Youngsters are benefitting from Melin Homes’ community grant scheme.
The South Wales housing association recently presented Abergavenny Road Club (RC) with a brand new racing bike thanks to its Jump fund scheme. The fund provides grants of up to £250 for groups and organisations that benefit Melin’s residents and the communities in which it operates.
A number of Melin’s younger residents, aged between 7 and 15, have shown real talent at Abergavenny RC and some have even competed in prestigious biking competitions. However, as the youngsters own bikes aren’t really suitable for proper racing use, the club decided to apply to Melin’s Jump fund to buy a new racing bike.
Abergavenny RC now has an Islabikes Beinn 26 – one of the best bikes around for youngsters into racing. All members of the club can practice on it and will be able to use it at future competitions as it has adjustable features which can accommodate riders of different heights and ages.
John Ford, Abergavenny RC’s Youth Coach, said: “This bike will make such a difference to the club. We are all incredibly grateful to Melin for its fantastic gift. On behalf of everyone, I would like to say thank you.”
Mark Gardner, Melin’s Chief Executive, said: “We have always been committed to supporting local groups and initiatives, and our Jump fund provides a structured and fair way for us to allocate funds and ensure we maximise benefits for our residents and communities.”
Melin’s Jump fund can sponsor a wide range of projects including sport and youth clubs, environmental improvement schemes and those for social gain.
