British Stars out in force at Revolution 22
The second Revolution of the current season will welcome another sell out crowd to the Manchester Velodrome on Saturday night (6th December). The main attraction will be the return to racing for Chris Hoy who will line up against his British team mates as well as international challengers Tuen Mulder, Roberto Chiappa and Itmar Esteban.
Complimenting the sprint racing will be a world class endurance field with CSC’s Luke Roberts taking on the cream of British talent including Geraint Thomas, Ed Clancy, Steve Cummings, Chris Newton, Rob Hayles, Jonnny Bellis, Steven Burke, Ben Swift, Pete Kennaugh, Andy Tennant, Tony Gibb and Dean Downing.
One of the highlights to the programme will once again be a head to head between Team Sprint and Team Pursuit. This time with Chris Hoy back on the team, the sprinters will be looking for retribution after defeat at the last Revolution. Over a longer course of 1km and without the flying start, they are determined to triumph in this unique competition.
In the other racing Lizzie Armistead, Jo Rowsell, Katie Colclough, Alex Greenfield, Lucy Martin, Anna Blyth, and Becky James will be joined by two girls from the USA, Kacey Manderfield and Christen King. These riders will be taking on some of the best British women in an action packed programme. Lizzie’s currently leading the World Cup Scratch and Team Pursuit events, she said: “I'm really looking forward to racing at revolution it is a fantastic opportunity to ride with some strong girls and get even more experience to take into world cup events.”
Completing the fantastic line up will be Bradley Wiggins. Giving his legs a pre- Christmas rest, the double Gold medallist will be in the Track Centre Expo area from 7-9pm signing copies of his new book, In Pursuit of Glory.

After starting the season off with a sprint victory at the Milan 6 at the beginning of November, Chris is on good form for the upcoming Revolution. He said: “Really looking forward to getting back racing. Revolution is one of the highlights of the season for all the riders so I’m pleased that it will be my first race back.”
Chris has been a star attraction at every Revolution Series over the past six years and always enjoys returning to Manchester, he said: “The combination of entertainment with high quality racing is what has made the Revolution so successful. The racing is really hard and fast and the event brings some of the best riders in the world to compete – this quality and the entertainment element creates an amazing atmosphere that is unique in track racing.”
He continued: “The riders all really enjoy racing the event and many riders have used the Revolution as their swansong with Fiedler and now McGee choosing it as their last race. This goes to show the popularity of Revolution with the riders as well as the spectators.” With a busy season planned for this winter / spring, Chris is looking ahead, saying: “(my) focus will be the World Championships and hopefully I’ll be contending all three sprint disciplines.”
Two of the Olympic champions confirmed for Revolution 22
Already completely sold out, Revolution 22 is set to be another fantastic evening’s entertainment and the highlight will undoubtedly be the world class sprinting. Competing alongside Chris and already confirmed are Olympic medallists Jamie Staff, Jason Kenny and Ross Edgar as well as top European sprinters Tuen Mulder, Itmar Esteban and Roberto Chiappa.
Following team GB’s victories in Beijing, the international riders are coming over to Manchester with the intention of seriously challenging their British opponents. Tuen Mulder, double World Champion, European Champion and three times National Champion, beat Edgar in the Sprint Omnium at Revolution 19 in January 2008 so will be out to beat all the boys this time round. Chiappa, 13 times Italian national champion in the Sprint, Team Sprint and Keirin is also on flying form and looking for wins at Revolution.
Tickets to the event are sold out. Tickets for the remaining Revolution events on 10th January and 21st February are available to purchase on www.cyclingrevolution.com
The Cycling Revolution
Revolution was created in 2003 by Face Partnership and the Manchester Velodrome to provide a new style of cycling event in the UK, a style that would increase spectator appeal and change the way people think about the sport.
With the creation of an action packed alternative race programme featuring international road and track stars presented with a slick, modern style the Cycling Revolution was born. The racing is fast and the atmosphere is electrifying with music and lighting effects creating a superb night of entertainment for cycling and non-cycling fans alike.
