National Track Cycling Championships 2008


Event Dates: 16th - 20th September 2008

Following on from the Olympics, and at a location much closer to home, the 2008 National Track Championships will be hosted at the Manchester Velodrome between the 16th-20th September. Manchester Velodrome is the 'home' track for Team GB, hosting the World Track Championships no less than three times and is scheduled to open its doors the first round of the UCI Track Cycling World Cup Classics in October.

With Track Racing achieveing a high profile this year through the World Championships in Manchester and of course the Olympic Games, The National Track Championships is your chance to sample the entertainment of top quality Track Racing.

 

On show will be many British track stars of the future, plus a couple of high-profile Olympians. Olympic Bronze medallists Steven Burke and Chris Newton are expected to face each other in the Individual Pursuit, Scratch and Points Races, with both facing some very hot competition in these events as GB Academy rider Mark McNally and Development Academy youngster Andy Fenn have signed up for the same events.

 

Over in the women's races, current World champion Joanna Rowsell heads the line up. Joanna is entered for the Scratch and Points races, and will face some difficult competition from fellow Team Halfords Bikehut riders Lizzie Armitstead and Emma Trott.

SCHEDULE

  • The event kicks off on Tuesday 16th September at 7.00pm with the men's Kilo TT and the Women's 500m TT.
  • Wednesday 17th sees the men qualify for the Scratch race and the women qualify for the Sprint in the morning session starting at 11:30am, followed by the finals for these events taking place in the evening.
  • Thursday 18th's morning session, beginning at 10:00am, is the qualification rounds of the men's Sprint and Pursuit, while the women take each other on in the 15km Scratch. The finals of these events take place in the evening session which begins at 7.00pm.
  • The qualification rounds for the Points race and Team Sprint for both men and women happens at midday on Friday 19th with the finals to all these events taking place at 7.00pm that evening.
  • Finally, Saturday hosts the men and women's Kierin battles, as well as the Team Pursuit and Women's 3000m Pursuit. Qualification takes place at 1.00pm with the finals at 7.00pm.

TICKETS

Tickets for the Thursday, Friday & Saturday of the National Track Championships are on sale now. Entry to the Tuesday and Wednesday sessions is free.

 

Tickets cost £5 (£4 for concessions - under-16's and OAPs) which will allow access to the Velodrome for the day's racing. Family tickets (two adults and two under-16s) are also available for £10 per day. A season ticket can also be purchased which will allow you access to the Velodrome for all the racing. This costs £12.50 for a single ticket, £25 for a family ticket and £10 for concessions.
