Peter Mitchell Wins Top BBC Award

Mitchell is BBC South East Young Sports Person of the Year

 

20071205_Mitchell_Peter_AwardWorld Junior Team Sprint Champion Peter Mitchell is the latest in a number of young cyclists to be recognised by people in their local area and awarded the BBC South East Young Sports Person of the Year gong. It has been a great year for Peter who is part of the British Cycling Olympic Development Programme for Sprint events.

 

As the season has progressed, his seasons results have got better and better from winning the Sussex Sprint Championship and the National Sprinters League through to a Silver medal qualification ride at the European Championships and then two medals at the World Junior Championships. Not only did Peter win a Gold medal in the Team Sprint with Christian Lyte and David Daniell, he also won a Bronze medal in the Individual Sprint in the Junior World Championships held in Mexico.

Pete’s achievements were recognised at the BBC South East sports award evening held on 3rd December at Gillingham Football Club's Priestley Stadium. Pete, along with other top athletes and sports volunteers from the South East, were the honoured guests at a spectacular prize evening hosted by BBC South East TV presenter Geoff Clark.
