Pat McQuaid speaking at the launch of the Manchester World Track Championships in Majorca earlier this year.

Tickets for the 2008 UCI Track Cycling World Championships in Manchester are now on sale. The 2008 Championships are being held at the Manchester Velodrome in SportCity and will run over five days 26th to 30th March 2008. Great Britain will be defending their record haul of seven world crowns won at the Palma Championships this year. The British team could go even further this time in front of a home crowd.

The championships have been extended from four to five days which will allow triple gold medal sprinter Victoria Pendleton to add the women’s 500m time trial race to her competition schedule. Pendleton was forced to watch as Australian Anna Meares won the 2007 title breaking the world record in the process.

The 2008 World Championships has an extra edge as it the last chance for the world’s top nations to qualify places for the Beijing Olympic games later in the year. This event is one of Manchester’s big sporting attractions in 2008 where they are also hosting the World Swimming Championships and the UEFA Cup Final in Britain’s second capital city. Manchester is famous for its hospitality and many visitors are expected to take advantage of the long Easter weekend (20th – 23rd) to visit the city and stay on for the cycling championships.

Simply visit www.worldtrackcycling.com and click on ‘tickets’ to be directed to the dedicated page. Tickets can also be obtained by ringing the special World Championships hotline on 0871 230 2621. Ticket prices are fully inclusive with only postage to add to each order.
