500m Record Falls to Hoy - But Kilo Missed!

Story posted May 14 2007

Hoy_2007_worlds_kilo__Pod_200Chris Hoy failed by the narrowest of margins to claim the world Kilo record in La Paz, falling just 5 thousandths of a second outside Arnaud Tournant's record. However, Hoy did come away with a world record when he broke Arnaud Duble's record for the standing start 500m by over a second.

Although disappointing, it perhaps reflects Hoy's true forte and the basis of his Kilo dominance in recent years. Although lightning fast, it's Hoy's ability to handle the pressure of the competitive Kilo which sets him apart. Time after time he's gone off last in the event with a world class time to beat and come up with the goods - never more strikingly than at the Athens' Olympics.

For a more detailed report on his record attempt, plus details of a documentary about it to be shown on BBC Scotland, visit the BBC website: BBC Sport

First Attempt Fails!

Chris Hoy's first attempt to break the world Kilo record at altitude in Bolivia ended in a near miss. The multi-world champion recorded 59.103 seconds, just 0.228s outside Arnaud Tournant's seven-year old world record.
