Rollapaluza Extravaganza Hits Bristol

Ladies winner, Sarah Barber -- grimace or smile?

Rollapaluza always guessed Bristol would be great place for one of their unique, modern-day roller-race extravaganzas and Bristol didn't disappoint!

The fantastic Mud Dock cafe was packed on a Wednesday night...and the fireworks were indoors on the Rollapaluza rollers! Amongst the 71 racers were top road pros (Simon Richardson, Plowman Craven); track racers (Andy Magnier), 4X racers(Duncan Ferris) and single speed record holders (Matt Carr) mixed with club riders and cycling enthusiasts from all over the West Country.

Some blistering times were set with top Four-Cross racer Duncan Ferris joining the Rollapaluza league of honour, one of only ten competitors to go under 20 seconds of the now 7000 who have competed on the famous Rollapaluza rig....he actually dipped under twice with his fastest time of 19.75 placing him in fifth fastest time ever, only 3/10ths of a second behind Chris Hoy!

However Duncan was to meet his match in the final, which according to Rollapaluza tradition is run over 1km, twice the standard race distance of 500m.

Duncan led from the gun and his speed was amazing but he started to fade with 300m to go and the measured, assured style of Marcus Mumford saw him pass Duncan close to the end to the delight of the crowd.

As is usual at Rollapaluza there was a healthy ladies entry with some close and exciting racing, fastest qualifier Sarah Barber looked dominant throughout the evening and took a fine win. A great night, with a fantastic atmosphere, generously sponsored by Iron Horse who provided the prizes, a brand new "Transit 0.0", fixed, sinlgle speed bike for each of the winners.
