National Senior and Disability Track Championships
2-6 October 2007, Manchester Velodrome

Team Pursuit
AGiskoviner.com, 100% ME and VC St Raphael on the podium
In the Team Pursuit a dramatic crash by the 100% ME team, favourites for the title, overshadowed qualification. The quartet of Bellis, Burke, Tennant and Hampton were well into their stride and apparently riding smoothly towards the fastest qualifying time when as leading rider Jonny Bellis swung up the track in the North bend, at the end of his stint on the front, he clipped the front wheel of second rider Andy Tennant, who came crashing down onto the concrete infield, bringing down his tow remaining team-mates in the process.
The crash occurred at nearly 40mph, but luckily all the riders were able to get up immediately and after collecting their senses they passed themselves fit for a re-ride. The track, however, had suffered considerable damage and the 100%ME quartet endured a tense 20 minute wait whilst the damage was made good, before embarking on a re-run. To their credit, although a little off their expected pace, they still qualified comfortably fastest for the final.

The finals saw the 100%ME quartet making up for their morning dramas with a swift catch of the Agiskoviner Team, to claim a well-deserved gold medal.
However, the ride off for bronze saw more drama. The Cardiff Ajax team were building up a healthy advantage over their opponents, VC St Raphael. Both teams dropped to three riders at around the three minute mark, but then the third Cardiff Ajax rider clipped the wheel of the second man and went down heavily in the back straight. The VC St Raphael team quickly cottoned on and redoubled their efforts, whilst the dropped Cardiff man tried to get back into contention - a hopeless task as he was almost a lap down. Cardiff's efforts were therefore no avail and VC St Raphael took a very lucky bronze medal, leaving the Cardiff boys looked pretty dejected.

Women's 3000m Pursuit Championship
Harris, Romero and Rowsell
Rebecca Romero dominated the Women's Pursuit, laying down an impressive qualification time of 3.35.632, over ten seconds faster than the rest of the field, with Nikki Harris having the dubious pleasure of tackling her in the final.
In the event Romero went even quicker than in the morning and caught harris inside three minutes, going on to record an impressive time of 3.34.114 and claiming her first national Pursuit title.
The Women's Pursuit final was between Rebecca Romero (left) and Nikki Harris (right)
A couple of very promising young riders, Jo Rowsell and Hannah Mayho went under 3 minutes 50 in qualifying and went into the bronze medal ride-off, where Rowsell took a close contest, pulling slowly clear throughout her ride.

CWAD Time Trial
Cundy, Waddon and Richardson
A delighted Rik Waddon won the Disability Kilo Time Trial Championship, from Jody Cundy, with Simon Richardson third. Waddon's inmpressive 1.15.407 put him closer to the world's best in his category than his opponents. Cundy, the record holder in his category was clearly tired after a long week of competition, in which he has emerged as one of the personalities of the championships.
Rik Waddon on his way to gold
There was also a sensational time from the new tandem pairing of Jon Norfolk and Anthony Kappes. Norfolk doesn't become eligible to compete in the category until next year, having represented the senior GB squad in recent years. However, he will be available for the Beijing Paralympics and he and Kappes produced an unofficial time of 1.02.638, which would have been a world record for the category, had they been eligible.

Women's Keirin
Blyth, Pendleton and Scott
A lap to go in the final and Blyth has just gone over the top of Pendleton
The Women's Keirin title once again went to Victoria Pendletone, despite a brave challenge from Anna Blyth. Pendleton was in pole position on the pacing derney, but Blyth stayed right at the back of the field and then attacked over the top with a lap and a half to go, surging into a two bike length lead, before Pendleton, forced to work very hard, dragged her back and pulled clear to claim the gold, with Blyth second and Scott third.

Men's Keirin
Edgar, Crampton and Hoy
There was a big upset in the Men's Keirin final when Matt Crampton brushed aside two of the best Keirin riders in the world, Chris Hoy and Ross Edgar, to claim his first title. These three big guns had enjoyed relatively simple progress through to the finals and it looked like a shoot-out between Hoy and Edgar for the title, with Crampton and Kenny left to fight it out for bronze.
Chris Hoy still has a big lead a lap from the finish
However, Hoy chose to go very hard off the front from the moment the derney pulled clear and he found himself with a gap of several lengths. With two laps to go he was pulling away, but he also had little option but to commit to the finish. Crampton and Edgar responded together and it was Crampton who caught the big Scot and went round the outside of him in the final bend.
Coming up to the line and Crampton, centre is edging ahead of Hoy, right, with Edgar, left, also coming through fast
Right to the line the result was in doubt, with Hoy responding and both Crampton and Edgar lunging for the line. But it was Crampton who claimed it, with Edgar also squeezing out Hoy, who could only collect the bronze. David Daniell won the minor final.
