GB Success at Dudenhofen GP
September 1, 2007
Great Britain finished their training camp in Germany recently with success at Dudenhofen GP. During the International Open meeting with many of the World's best riders attending, Chris Hoy won the Sprint beating German sprinter Mathias John in the Semis and then another of the Germans, Carsten Bergmann in the Final.

There was also success for triple World Champion Victoria Pendleton in her Sprint competition when she beat German rider Karen Muche who got to the final in controversial circumstances after racing GB's Anna Blyth in the Semi finals. In a tight finish on the line, Muche was given the verdict by the trackside commentator but after reviewing video taken by GB and the Aussies, it was clear the wrong rider had been given the win. Much discussion followed and the best the officials would give the Brits was a rerun.
So Anna got to have another shot at the more experienced German and in that rerun, Muche got the better of Anna to face Victoria (pictured) in the final. There was more disappointment for Anna in the final for third place when German Gloss who had made the finals via the repechages after being put out by Anna in an earlier round, got her revenge by beating Anna for third place.
In the Team Sprint, GB, like they did in Cottbus, put two teams into the event. Team one was Jamie Staff, Chris Hoy and Jason Queally and in Team 2, Jason Kenny, Matthew Crampton and Ross Edgar. The two British teams qualified first and second with the more experienced team 1 in pole position.
In the final, despite leading after lap, the younger GB Team 2 were unable to sustain the effort and GB Team 1 came home the faster and won the event in another 1-2 for GB. The team have now spent a few weeks in the UK and are now heading to Majorca for some road miles there as they prepare for a busy winter campaign starting with the Track Nationals in October.
