The last day of the Youth and Junior Track Championships provided plenty of exciting and nail biting races as the last Championship jerseys were decided.
Under 14 Girls Omnium

First up were the under 14 girls riding 2000m for the start of their Omnium, Laura Allen – New Brighton CC threw down the gauntlet taking the win with just tenths of a second to spare over Hannah Barnes – Palmer Park Velo.
In the Sprint Barnes was lined up alongside Allen, Harriet Owens –Palmer Park Velo and Hannah Manley – Cardiff Ajax. Barnes took the win easily from her team mate, leaving Allen to pick up 3rd. Moving on to the final discipline 500m TT, Barnes stamped her authority on the event recording a blistering 38.59 nearly 2 secs clear of team mate Owens, to take the Omnium title, with Owen picking up silver and Allen the Bronze.
Hannah Barnes: My first race I wasn’t very happy as I didn’t get a very good start. I was on the green for the pursuit start, but I went on to get a personal best for that. In the 500m TT I had to win, as if the girl in second beat me I would have lost the overall title. So I am pleased it went alright for me in the end.
Under 14 Boys Omnium
In the under 14 boys Omnium, there were surprises and disappointment throughout the close fought competition. In the end just 2 points separated the Gold from Bronze. Jonathon Dibbens – I-team.co.uk took the first win nearly 3 secs clear of second placed Rob Lambton – Newport (Shropshire) CC, while Josh Papworth rode into 3rd.

Onto the sprint and Dibbens found himself lining up for the final with, Papworth, Lambton and Jordan Hargreaves – Eastlands Velo. It was Hargreaves who had the speed to take the win, with Lambton picking up another 2nd, Papworth 3rd and Dibbens 4th.
Finally with everything to play for the boys lined up for the 500m TT. The championship could be won or lost on the outcome of this ride. Hargreaves once again showed his class picking up his 2nd win, whilst a consistent Lambton took his 3rd second, Dibbens took 3rd.
With the results all in, the overall Champion was a surprised Rob Lambton, his consistent riding earning him the title. Jordan Hargreaves despite winning two of the three events had to console himself with silver, his pursuit letting him down. Whilst Dibbens took bronze, delighted with his win in the pursuit and happy to have got a medal.
Rob Lamberton: I just didn’t think I would win, that was so stressful, I didn’t enjoy it at all, but happy if not a bit stunned to be going home with the jersey.

Junior Women Points
Jessica Allen – Pinarello RT took Gold in the junior women’s points race, by the narrowest of margins, after a tough race with plenty of attacks left the point scoring wide open. Some tactical riding by Allen’s team mate Alex Greenfield ensured Allen out manoeuvred rival Corrine Hall – Twickenham CC in the final sprint, which earned her the Gold. Hall took silver whilst Lucy Martin – Team Chance picked up Bronze after some strong attacks.
Jessica Allen: It was a very, very good race, lots of attacking, really fast, really good. It was like the scratch race on Tuesday really, there was constant attacking in that, people were really making a race of it, so I thought today would be like that to be honest. I’m really chuffed to take the jersey. Alex (Greenfield) helped me out in the last couple of laps to help get me up there to win. So it was a good team effort. Me and Corrine were neck and neck going into the final sprint so I knew I’d have to beat her in hat sprint to win, it was so close.

Record Attempt -- Emily Kay
An addition to the program of the day came after lunch, when newly crowned under 12 Omnium Champion Emily Kay- Halesowen A&CC, had asked to ride a 1500m pursuit in attempt to break the National age record, she’d come so close to breaking the previous day. Her attempt was successful, with her slicing over a second from the previous record, the new time stands at: 2.07.578.
Emily Kay: I’d missed the pursuit record for the under12’s by 0.14secs yesterday so I asked the organiser if I could have another go at it today. I was hoping I’d do it and I did, getting 1.30secs under the old record.
Under 16 Women 500m TT
Rebecca James – Pinarello RT added yet another Gold to her tally of the Championships, winning the under 16 girls 500m TT. With her Great Granddad (who is turning 100 in 2 weeks time) sitting in the stands, Rebecca rode an inspired ride to take the win, breaking her own PB and National under 16 age record that she set the previous day, with Laura Trott – VC Londres taking silver and Joanne Wilman – Yasumitsu Schlapp picking up the bronze.
Rebecca James: I was hoping my form might last, I thought I definitely wasn’t going to do a faster time than yesterday, but I did and I’m totally nailed now. I’m happy with that. A PB along with a new national record, a good way to finish. An awesome week, 4 national jerseys, I’m really proud.

It was a similar result today in the 500m TT under 16 boys event as it had been in the Sprint the previous day, with a delighted Luc Jones –New Tredegar Nomads adding another Championship jersey to his name, taking Gold with a stunning ride. Kevin Stuart - Discovery Juniors picked up another Silver and the Bronze went to Kian Emadi – Tunstall Whlrs.
Luc Jones: I’m really pleased. I done the business. That’s all you can do. I did what I came here to do yesterday in the sprint; today was just a bonus for me. I just went out there and gave it all I got.
Junior Men Kilometre TT
Finally all eyes were on the last event, the Junior 1000m TT, where newly crowned Sprint National Junior Champion Dave Daniell – Cleveland Whlrs still smarting from his defeat in the Kierin the previous day, was in contention. His efforts were well rewarded as he took the title .732 secs clear of Christian Lyte – Sportcity Velo in Silver position just narrowly ahead of Steven Hill – Brookes Cycles who took Bronze.
Dave Daniell: I’m over the moon with that result, a pretty good time as well. I went out there and put in 100% and am pleased with what I got out. I couldn’t go much better really. Definitely consolation after yesterdays Kierin. I felt good yesterday, and kinda went for a long one, saw the glory, but going so soon I virtually gave the race away but I’m pleased with today. I went out and gave it my all and a good time came out of it.
