Under 12 Omnium
Thursday’s action got under way with the first event of the under 12’s Omnium: 1500m pursuit, which was won by Jacob Ragan (Eastlands Velo) (above). Ragan went on to score a victory in the sprint, and a final 2nd in the 500m TT secured him the title of the Under 12 National Omnium Champion. A clean sweep was denied him by Robbie Westwood – Maindy Velo Flyers, who up until the 500M TT had to settle for second, his efforts earned him a worthy Silver while a consistent Daniel Maslin – Hillingdon Slipstreamers picked up the bronze, finishing 3rd in each event on he way.

Emily Kay dominated the female under 12’s Omnium with a clean sweep across the board in the 1500m pursuit, 500m TT and the sprint with Esther Colman – West Suffolk Wheelers, close in pursuit finishing second in each event to take silver and Emily Barnes picking up the bronze with a consistent 3rd placing in all the events too.
Under 16 Sprint
Luc Jones - New Tredegar Nomads in the men’s under 16 sprint contest qualified fastest in the heats and went on to take a hard won victory against Kevin Stuart – Discovery Junior CC. In the ride off for bronze, Kian Emadi - Tunstall Wheelers took match A, then his opponent Callum Skinner – Edinburgh Racers evened it up in match B, until he was relegated for cutting down on his opponent, meaning Emadi could claim the Bronze.
Junior Women 500m TT
Jess Varnish, Rebecca James and Hannah Mayho.
Rebecca James – Pinarello RT continued in her blistering form this week by taking the win in the Junior Women’s 500m TT, scoring a PB along the way. A disappointed Jess Varnish – Halesowen A&CC, who had a poor start missed out on the win by a fraction of a second and had to settle for silver whilst Hannah Mayho - Team Chance surprised herself by coming in 3rd to pick up Bronze to add to her tally of medals picked up over the week.
Junior Men's Keirin
David Daniell, Christian Lyte and Steven Hill.
With Christian Lyte – Sportcity Velo resplendent in his new Junior World Champion Keirin jersey, he felt the pressure going into the final. As he told me later, nobody wants to see the World Champion come home on second, so he had a fight on his hands.
The man with his sights set firmly on the Gold was David Daniell – Cleveland Wheelers, hoping to reverse the outcome in Mexico where he finished second to Lyte. However his ambition were dashed, when Lyte made short work of the event, coming past Daniell who admitted he’d gone to early, to take the National Junior men’s Keirin title. Steven Hill Brooks Cycles took Bronze.
Under 16 Women's Points Race
The under 16 women’s points race was taken by 1 point by Connie Hall – Twickenham CC from Laura Trott – VC Londres, while Katie Fearnehough – Sportcity Velo did enough to earn her Bronze.
Junior Mens Points Race

In the junior men’s points race, Peter Kernaugh – Pinarello RT added yet another National title to his growing collection, with a hard fought race, in which he scored handsomely taking the victory by 10 points. Behind him 3 men had a close battle as coming into the final sprint all 3 riders had 17 points. A delighted Mike Webb – Cardiff Ajax CC, burst past Adam Blythe – Science in sport- Trek to take the Silver, whilst Blythe in turn edged out Luke Rowe – Recycling RT who yet again had to settle for 4th spot.
