Day 1 (August 19)

20070819_Jun_Youth_Track_Champs_Harrison_60Day 1 of the championships saw a number of key events, including the Male Under-16 Pursuit and Junior Women's Pursuit, both of which reached a conclusion. The Under-16 Female sprint reached the quarter-final stage, as did the Junior Men's Sprint.  We've got full results ... Day 1 Report

Day 2 (August 20)

20070820_Junior_Youth_Track_Champs_60Day 2 saw lots of champions being crowned. European Junior Sprint champion David Daniel added the National Title to his collection whilst a star of the future Rebecca James won the Under 16 Women's Sprint Championship. The Junior Women Scratch race was probably the most attacking and exciting race for a long long time and European Junior Women Points champion Alex Greenfield was a worthy victor at the end of a testing race. The Under 16 Mens Scratch race was not quite as exciting but the finish was edge of the seat stuff and Daniel McLay won a very fast sprint to clinch that title: Day 2 Report

Note: In our report for the Under 16 Men's Scratch race, the commisaires report Kian Emadi as being disqualified for being over geared when he was 2nd. As a reminder to riders and parents its worth saying that Kian was a victim of circumstance when he chose to use a gear right on the limit for his age group. Nothing wrong in that but when he punctured just before his event, and a wheel was borrowed, and the sprockets changed to ensure he had the same gear, he went from a 19mm to a 22m tyre and it was that which took him over the limit. So be warned and be careful when changing wheels and gears for youth events.

Day 3 (August 21)

20070821_Jun_Youth_Track_Champs_01_60Four events, three titles decided. Christian Lyte upset the endurance riders by winning the Junior Scratch race whilst Jessica Varnish is looking good to retain her Sprint title as she was fastest in qualifying. Sam Harrison shows he has a bright future winning his second title in the Under 16 Points race whilst in the Under 16 Women's Pursuit, Jessica Booth went close to Nicole Cooke's  record set in 1999 when the Halesowen rider won the Pursuit...Day 3 Report

Day 4 (August 22)

rDay 4 saw Peter Kennaugh win yet another national title when he beat Mark McNally and Erick Rowsell for the Pursuit title whilst in the Under 16 female Scratch race, star sprinter Rebecca James upset the endurance girls when she got her front wheel across the line first. Day 4 also saw the finals of the Junior Women's Sprint and as expected it came down to a Jess Varnish versus Rebecca James final with Varnish getting the Gold......Day 4 Results only
