Lucy Ayres (left) and Anna Blyth show their track-stand skills

The session began with the Women's Sprint Semi Finals and Victoria Pendleton scienceinsport.com made it into the ride off for Gold by beating Siobhan Mullan Raleigh ERV in straight matches. Pendleton will meet Anna Blyth VC St. Raphael in the final after Blyth beat Lucy Ayres Sportcity Velo, also in straight matches. Mullan and Ayres will meet in the ride off for Bronze. The match between Pendleton and Blyth promises to be exciting as both look in prime form and appear to be head ans shoulders above the rest.

Meanwhile, the records began to tumble as the team sprinters took to the track. In the qualifying round the Championship record was broken by "Composite A" team which consisted of Chris Hoy, Craig MacLean & Jason Queally, pretty much the GB number one line-up for the last eight years. However, the show was stolen by "Composite B" Team which broke the Paralympic World Record. The Team consisting of Jody Cundy, Darren Kenny and Rick Waddon looked very slick on the way to a time of 51.910s.

In the semi-finals the "Composite A" team put on an especially classy ride when they again broke the Championship record with a 44.326s which is rather close to the National Record of 44.075s which is held by Hoy, Queally and Staff.

......and Heat 2

The heats of the Men's Points were run over 20km with 8 sprints every 10 laps. The main contenders for the finals did what was necessary to qualify for the final. It was only in the second heat that 4 riders took a lap to gain an additional 20 points to be certain to make the final, these were Kieran Page, Rhys Lloyd, Peter Kennaugh & Geraint Thomas. 24 Riders will take to the track in the evening session to cover 40km in what should be a thrilling Final.
