Day 1: Monday 11th September saw the start of the 12th year of the UCI World Masters Track Championships at the Manchester Velodrome. Highlight of the day was home riders winning four of the ten titles on offer with winning performances from Geoff Cooke (Men's 60-64 Individual Time Trial), Dave LeGrys (Men's 50-54 Individual Time Trial), Ben Elliott (Men's 30-34 Individual Time Trial) and Janet Birkmyre (Women's 40+ Points race). Day 2: Tuesday 12th September saw the 2006 World Masters titles awarded in the Men's Sprint and Women's Individual Time Trials events. There were an amazing seven new World Masters Best Times set during today's competition - the previous record was broken (subject to ratification) in each of the five men's Sprint events. Day 3: Wednesday 13th September saw the 2006 World Masters titles awarded in Men's Pursuit, Points & Sprint and Women's Sprint events. Great Britain won two of the eight titles on offer with winning performances from Ben Elliott (Men's 30-34 Sprint) and Shaun Wallace (Men's 45-49 Points). Mancunian Elliott took his second title of the week on home turf, previously winning the Men's 30-34 Individual Time Trial on Monday. Report >>>>

 

Day4: The fourth day of the 2006 UCI World Masters Track Championships at the Manchester Velodrome saw the 2006 World Masters titles awarded in Men's Pursuit, Points & Sprint and Women's Sprint events. Day5: The fifth day of the championships saw some big names in action, including former Tour de France rider Adrian Timmis. There was also a mighty clash when another Tour rider Sean Yates took on Sean Wallace in the men's 45-49 pursuit. Find out what happened in this event on another busy day at the Manchester Velodrome. Event Information

The UCI World Masters Track Championships are the official championships for riders over 30 years of age. A record entry of 426 riders from 25 countries will be competing for over 50 World Championship titles. This is 100 more competitors than usual. 2006 is the 12th year that this event has been held - all at the Manchester Velodrome. Next year, the event is moving to Sydney, Australia for three years.

Riders compete in their own age category (30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69 and 70+) over four individual disciplines: Individual Time Trial, Sprint, Individual Pursuit, Points race. The Men also compete in the Team Sprint event.

The finals are at 7pm on Wednesday, Thursday & Friday and 12pm & 6pm on Saturday - admission prices are £8 for adults and £4 for concessions (per day). There is free admission to the heats on Wednesday and Thursday morning sessions at 10am and Friday afternoon at 1pm.
