2009 Girvan Cycle Race
April 11-13, 2009
Event Website: www.girvanrace.info
The next counting event in the British Cycling Premier Calendar is the ScottishPower Renewables Girvan Cycle Race. Over 100 riders will race over 225 miles of scenic Ayrshire and Galloway roads in pursuit of the coveted winner's yellow jersey. In this year of Homecoming Scotland, the organisers invite spectators to join us for the 40th edition of this classic event.
Race organiser Ian Sinclair said, "A look at the list of past Girvan winners shows the calibre of competitor the event attracts and this year is no exception with as strong an entry as we've had in many years. All the teams and riders who matter are going to be there and I look forward to an absolutely superb race! If you enjoy watching top quality sporting action - Girvan is clearly the place to be this Easter."
Russell Downing on the attack
Riders entered so far include last years winner and overall Premier Calendar victor, Russell Downing. Last weekend’s Tour of the Reservoir showed that last years winner will face stiff opposition however from other teams entered including the strengthened Halfords Bikehut squad who include current Premier Calendar leader, Andy Tennant and the National Champion Rob Hayles.
