TfL Makes Tour of Britain Cyclists “Better off by Bike”
Special Sprints on Opening Stage of Tour of Britain guarantee spectacular action this weekend
On Sunday 7 September, three of the 96 professional cyclists taking part in The Tour of Britain really will be “better off by bike” thanks to the opening leg of the race – the TfL London Stage. In addition to the regular Hot Spot Sprints competition, there will also be three extra special “TfL You’re better off by Bike” Sprints on the third, fifth and seventh laps of the iconic London circuit and with some of the world’s fastest sprinters in the starting line-up the prizes are sure to be keenly fought over.
At each of these sprints, it will be winner takes all, with the first rider across the finish line on the Victoria Embankment receiving a special prize from Transport for London. The TfL London Stage of the 2008 Tour of Britain kicks off a bumper week of racing around the UK that culminates in Liverpool on Sunday 14 September.
The TfL Stage gets underway at 13.30 on Sunday 7 September on a circuit from Westminster to Tower Hill and back. Riders will cover 10 laps of the 8.5km (8.6km) course finishing, at around 15.15, before the first Yellow Jersey of the 2008 Tour of Britain will be presented, on the podium, to the leader at the end of the stage.
