Podium from last year -- Simon Holt, Tom Barras and Andy Tinsley -- all in good form again this year!

It's going to be a busy week in early June as the British Cycling Elite Circuit Race Series takes off in a big way. With one round done and dusted at Hillingdon last week where Graham Briggs was the winner, June 7 sees round 2 in London, round 3 the following day at Brentwood and then on the Tuesday (June 10), the Elite riders head for West Yorkshire and Brighouse near Halifax. Last year, the High street was packed and this year with banners and posters being displayed around the towns many shops and businesses even more people are expected to line the barriers for some city centre racing!

Spectators can look forward to an evening of entertainment and high drama as some of the country’s top cyclists compete around the streets of Brighouse. Anything can happen in this style of racing and one thing is for sure, the winner will definitely be worthy of the honour! Racing starts at 7pm with the Senior Race for 3/4/Women/Junior category riders which had such an exciting finish to it last year. These are club riders getting the opportunity to ride in front of a large crowd as will the young riders at 10 to 8 when the Under 12, Under 14, Under 16 Juveniles race starts.

Sprint finish to last years Elite race urged on by a big crowd.

The finish to the 3/4 race --- how close was that!

The exciting climax to the evening will be the hour long (approx) circuit race at 8.20 featuring the country’s top Elite riders. Take a look at the start sheet to see just how juicy this race may well be with the likes of the Downing brothers entered. Last year, the floods stopped them from attending but this year there battle will be one of the highlights but there will be many more as it is quite a strong field with star names like Tom Barras (last years winner), Simon Gaywood (Elite Circuit Series winner) , Tony Gibb, James McCallum (National champion), Evan Oliphant, Andy Tinsley, Jon Mozley, Russ Downing (man of the moment!), Malcolm Elliott (where do we start!), Tom Murray, Pete Williams and Ian Wilkinson just some of those on the start sheet.

The circuit starts along King Street and turns right down Lawson Road, before entering Bethel Street. It continues towards Thornton Square and up Briggate before turning right back into Commercial Street and along to the junction with Bradford Road / King Street.

The organisers have been able to confirm the support of Calderdale Council, Dews Motor Group as the main sponsor, with Hart & Clough again providing the print for the event programmes.
