Grass roots racing gets another boost in the West Midlands area, with the completion this summer of the new Tudor Grange Park cycle circuit in Solihull. This 900m long, 5m wide circuit is the brain child of former Tour de France rider and Olympic silver medallist, Harry Reynolds. Harry has been part of a team from Solihull CC working alongside the council and British Cycling to secure the funding and oversee the planning and construction of the circuit. The circuit is ideally located in a park that is seeing significant investment from the local council in new leisure facilities. The circuit is also just five minutes walk from Solihull town centre.
The Solihull CC has been undergoing a small resurgence in membership over the last 3-4 years with a total membership of around 260 with approximately 10% of that membership under 16 years old. The club has been building a youth development section slowly and carefully for a couple of years so that the completion of the circuit ties in with the start of a full youth development program.
To celebrate the arrival of the new facility, the Solihull CC are promoting a number of circuit races on 25th August (Bank holiday Monday). There are separate races for each youth category, a go-race 4th cat senior race and a 3/4/J/W event. In addition, there will be a Go-ride skills competition for all riders in the Youth C, D and E categories.
Please refer to the details in the road calendar for more information.
