Star Studded Line-up for British Time Trial Champs

Millar to win second British title in 2007?
It is probably the most star studded line up for many a year and when one of the Worlds best time trialists in David Millar is on the start sheet, the other riders know they have a fight on their hand for the Gold medal.

 

At the recent Eneco Tour (a ProTour event),  Millar was seen on television proudly wearing the National Champions colours in the road stages but had to revert to trade team colours for the Time Trial. Could he be looking to ensure he can keeps the champions colours on his back for both road race and time trials?

 

Jason MacIntyre  is the defending champion but the Scotsman will have to do what no other rider was able to do earlier this month in the Road Race championships (Wales) and that’s beat the professional who won the prologue in Paris-Nice this year, Millar.

 

Millar however is not the only major star on the start sheet. It is a who’s who of the cycling world and we know of at least one professional who’s kicking himself he didn’t put his name down for this event.

 

As well as Millar, the event will see riders who have been making a name for themselves in the Premier Calendar this year such as the winner Chris Newton and David Clarke. Olympic medallist Rob Hayles is also on the start sheet along with a former winner in Michael Hutchinson.

 

The other categories also have many a world class rider in there. First rider off, Rachel Morris is a double World Champion from the Disability World Championships last week in France and she is joined by fellow World Disability Champions Rik Waddon , Darren Kenny and David Stone.

 

The Masters category has many top names in it too and favourite has to be multi BBAR winner Kevin Dawson but he’ll have a fight on his hand from former teammates Mark Lovatt and John Tanner along with Julian Ramsbottom, Wayne Randle, and Dawson’s teammate Richard Prebble.

 

The Junior race sees a number of the Great Britain Cycling team Olympic Development riders against the best from around the country. Junior Road Race champion Peter Kennaugh takes on the likes of Bronze medallist Erick Rowsell and other top juniors Andrew Fenn, Andrew Griffiths, Mark McNally and Luke Rowe.

The Women’s category and the list of World Class riders continues. Silver medallist at the World Track Championships this year and defending champion Rebecca Romero is up against GB teammate  Wendy Houvenaghel and these two had better beware of another up and coming rider in GB’s Joanna Rowsell whilst the event sees US based rider Beverley Harper racing after medalling at the World Masters championships in Austria.

 

The Under 23 category is going to be a major battle as well with Simon Holt, Robert Partridge and Adam Bonser back from the Tour of Ireland with plenty of racing miles in their legs and their competition may well come from Matt Brammeier.

 

The championships kick off on Sunday at 9.01 on the J8/18 course which starts on the A50 in a lay by approx. 1.5 miles south of Holmes Chapel.  British Cycling will have cycling photographer Andy Whitehouse out there taking pictures of all the competitors and these will be seen on the British Cycling website after the event. We’ll also have pictures from Sarah Brooke who is making the journey up there to capture the race.
