Royal London 360 Youth League Round 8

Tuesday, 9th of June; Isle of Man

Report & Results From Dot Tilbury

Despite the difficulties caused by the rescheduling of the TT motorcycle race programme (held on public roads), a total of 122 competitors made it down to the National Sports Centre last Tuesday night for round eight of Team Royal London 360 Isle of Man's youth league. Two reporters from the legendary French sporting newspaper L'Equipe attended the event to see where Mark Cavendish started his career.

In the novices class Alex Butterworth cruised to another fine solo victory, taking the chequered flag with a clear advantage over runner-up Callum Dunn. Ballamodha's Harvey Comaish-Coole took third ahead of James Scott and Maddie Butterworth, who pipped sixth placed Chloe Comaish for the girls' prize. Donal Hensman, Luca Moretta, Zachary Dowson and Joey Magee completed the top ten.

Zac Walker increased his tally of wins in the born 2004 and later category to seven. Nathan Slack outsprinted Dillon Dowson for second and Cameron Dudley led twin brother Cameron home for fourth. Harry Kneen beat James Devereau to the line for sixth and leading girl Mairi Harrison stayed clear of Jack Sowerby and Andrew Tobin to grab eighth.

Percy Hampton rode away from the field to score another impressive win in the born 2003 category. Jake Wilson fought off a strong challenge from Jonty Bregazzi to claim second, with Matthew Black clipping off the front of the chasing group to catch and overtake top girl Darcy Cain for fourth. Seth Coole was a safe sixth and Jack Christian edged out Ben Grainger for seventh.

Retaining his unbeaten record, Charlie Gibson went from the gun in the born 2002 category and was never seen again. Aaron Lund and James Harrison dropped fellow chaser Oliver Dean on the final lap to grab second and third respectively, while Archie Walter managed to hold off Blae Cain and Charlie Moss for fifth. Nathan Thorpe came from behind to pip Joshua Crichton in the dash for eighth place.

In the born 2001 race Adam Scarffe and Jake Vance escaped from a leading group of five riders to secure first and second places. Two time winner Max Walker was a solid third and Juan Kneen forged ahead of  Amelia Sharpe to take fourth. Thomas Chatel beat Chloe Crellin, Lydia Glover and Emma Draper in the gallop for sixth spot.

Brothers Tom and Luke Murray were too strong for Sam Batey and Thomas Bostock in the final sprint at the end of the born 2000 class. Fifth placed Ben Christian lost contact with the four frontrunners on the penultimate lap and Olivia Sharpe led Ciara Sowerby over the line to pick up the girls' award in her very first outing of the season. Harry Cain was just behind in eighth place and Seam Maxwell squeezed out Daniel Costain and Jamie Comaish for ninth.

A determined Conor Davies had to work hard to oust Marcus Simpson in the two-way tussle for the born 1999 honours. Joseph Glover and Eleanor Davies found the pace at the front too hot and were left in the leaders' wake to salvage third and fourth respectively. Liam McCann and Kaitlin Slack filled the remaining places on the top six leader board.

Jamie Dudley had the edge over breakaway partners Ashley Faragher, Matthew Draper and Laura Kinley in the gallop to decide the outcome of the born 1998-96 grouping. Sophie Black was a close fifth and Jamie Faragher a lonely sixth, with newcomer Samantha Crowe doing well to beat Amy Kinley and Jack Freeman in the fight for seventh place.

British Cycling series leader Matthew Bostock came out on top again in the U/10, U/12 racing bikes. Owen Dudley was second followed by Matthew Draper, Joseph Haddock and Victoria Kinrade. Sixth place went to Breeshey Cain and Conor Davies (7th) outgunned Thomas Bostock to top the U/10's category. Charlie Gibson was the best U/8 rider in a very good tenth place.

Thomas Mazzone, Jake Kelly, Alex Haddock and Jack Wolstencroft all lapped the field in the U/14, U/16 racing bikes. Mazzone attacked on the penultimate lap to take the win from Kelly ( best U/14), Haddock and Wolstencroft.  Matthew Davies, who is slowly returning to form after a bout of glandular fever, was the best of the rest in fifth place.
