The latest round of the 2009 Team Series for women was held in the picturesque area of Derbyshire where the winner was Vision 1’s Dani King riding for the team, Squadra Donne/Luciano. Her victory came after a tough 50 mile race which saw the riders covering 5 laps of a 10 mile circuit with one climb up Pistern Hill each time and two other climbs on the circuit which were probably even more demanding.

With hot and brilliant sunshine, the race broke up within the first circuit which took around 25-30 minutes, with the main group gaining a five minute lead on the chasers. Many more were dropped out the back and found themselves a place in the smaller chase groups, managing to complete the distance despite the heat and terrain. By the start of the final lap, there was still a large group at the front of the race but by the finish, a breakaway had formed with three riders; Dani King, Twickenham CC’s Natalie Creswick and Dutch based rider Emma Trott of The Mischiefcard.com. All three were closely matched for the sprint but Dani King was the rider who had the most left in the tank at the end and crossed the line first ahead of Creswick and Trott.
