A British Cycling Road Race Series

The National Women’s Road and Circuit series got under way this weekend with a two stage race based around the village of Weaverham in Cheshire. Winner was newcomer to the Halfords Bikehut team, Sharon Laws, who midweek rode the Belgium Classic Fleche Wallonne.

The Halfords Bikehut team dominated the Olveston Road Race, a round of the National Women's series. Using their numbers and combined ability to good effect the team ripped apart the field and then rode away from their chasers to finish with remarkable five riders in the top five spots.

In the third round of the Womens National Road Race Series held in Scotland (Ayrshire), the winner was Leanne Thompson of the Lune Road Cycling Club who triumphed in a sprint finish from Ella Sadler-Andrews of the Leisure Lakes RT and first Scottish rider Claire Thomas of Edinburgh Road Club.

Winner of this was a feisty Pinarello rider Alex Greenfield who won alone after she managed to make her final break stick and only a lone Katie Colclough was threatening her pursuit of victory as the Halfords Bikehut rider started to chase her down alone over the closing laps.....

Joanna Rowsell, a World Champion on the track no less, and Katie Colclough made it a Team Halfords Bikehut 1–2 in Sundays 5th round of the Michelin Reynolds National Women's Road Series in Lancashire.

The first race of the night in Blackpool was a round of the Women's National Series and a surprisingly small field were there to battle for the 250 quid on offer for the winner. It must have been one of the biggest prizes this year but it was mainly a young and talented field of riders who took to the start line.

A bright breezy morning greeted the 50 or so starters of today’s Essex Ladies Giro incorporating the Junior Women’s National Road Championship. While Jess Allen won the event open to all age groups, second place getter Lucy Martin was the Junior RR Champion.

Lizzie Armitstead, fresh from her medal successes at the recent European Track Championships, won the Women's national series (circuit) race, with team-mates Katie Colclough and Emma Trott making it a one-two-three for Team Halfords Bike Hut. The win was just one of many for Lizzie in 2008 since May as she came back from surgery earlier in the year and prepares for the World Road Championships in Italy later this month.
