The Junior National Road Race Series for the Peter Buckley Trophy is a very prestigious set of events with a long list of champions having featured in the series over the years. More than 50 riders, who have finished in the top three in the series over the years, have gone on to represent their country at senior level and in some cases, been Olympic champions (Bradley Wiggins) or medallists.
On the road, star names like Malcolm Elliott stand out as do others like Steve Joughin, Chris Walker, Chris Lillywhite, Jeremy Hunt, Charlie Wegelius, Russell Downing, Geraint Thomas, Stephen Cummings, and Tom Southam to name but a few. British Cycling wishes the juniors competing in this year's series all the best as they aim to add their names to a very illustrious list. Current Standings

Erick Rowsell dominated the three-stage Martyn Ashfield Classic Junior Road Race, held in South Wales. We've got full results and final standings, plus a report of the action on the final day from Richard Robotham, who also supplied plenty of shots of the racing.

It was a big day of racing sponsored by Irwin Mitchell solicitors around Kingston-on-Soar on Sunday for Junior Men and Women in two separate races in memory of Sid Standard. In the first race of the day, Charlotte Blackman was the victor of the Women's Team Series event whilst in the afternoon, Tim Kennaugh won the 2nd round of the National Michelin/Reynolds Junior Road Race Series.

Andy Fenn won the junior category race at the Sleepwell Hotels Isle of Man Youth Tour taking control on the hilly stage two road race. The 17-year-old Dolan RT rider took control in the 100km road race around Peel where he won on the top of the Switchback climbing finishing 35 seconds clear of Erick Rowsell (Team Corridori) who had won the previous evening's prologue time-trial in Douglas.

Erick Rowsell of the Corridori team was the winner of the fourth round of the British Cycling National Junior Road Race series. Rowsell won the race at Beechy Head from ALexander King and Luke Rowe. Photo albums from both races on the day now on the website.

It was an early start in Brentwood with the first race for Juniors starting at 9.45. Looking round the car park, it was good to see series leader Erick Rowsell was indeed on the start sheet. Very quickly it became clear that two of the strong riders in the race were going to be series leader Erick Rowsell in his leader’s jersey and Joe Perrett, but it was to be Perrett's day as first Rowsell and then Peter Dibben and George Atkins who had to succumb to his form as he won the race his club promotes.

Gale force winds made the conditions for the 60 mile Tom Simpson National Junior Road Race harder than usual. The battle for first place started on the climb to the finish line as David Nichols and Chris Whorrall fought side by side all the way to the finish line with victory going to Whorrall. The latest round of the National Junior Road Race series was won by Wyre Forest CRC's Dominic Jelfs snatching victory from an on form Junior Paris-Roubaix winner Andrew Fenn(Dolan RT). After close on an hour's hard fought racing instigated by a fired up Fenn and Luke Rowe (Rapha Condor), Jelfs played the waiting game and struck at the last minute to claim a superb victory from a 15 man sprint.

Winner of this long running Junior road race on the hilly roads around Cublington in Buckinghamshire was Glendene CC's David Nichols who won a sprint between four riders with his teammates Joe Perrett and Nathan Edmondson making it a 1-2-3 for the Essex club.

The Junior Tour of Wales Cycle Race, part of British Cycling's National Series for Juniors, took place over the August Bank Holiday weekend comprising of 5 stages over three days. Based in the spectacular scenery of the Brecon Beacons, Erick Rowsell, despite no team support, was the winner while the foreign teams took the most of the stages. ...

Points Awarded
Points will be awarded for the first 20 places in each single day road race and for the top 20 overall in stage races as follows: 60, 52, 45, 40, 35, 31, 27, 23, 20, 17, 15, 13, 11, 9, 7, 6, 5, 3, 2, 1.
In each Stage (including prologues) the top 10 placed riders will be awarded National Series Points as follows: 10, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, 1.
In each Closed Road Circuit Race the top 15 placed riders will be awarded National Series Points as follows: 30, 25, 21, 17, 14, 12, 10, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. Points will be awarded for the first 4 across the line on two pre-designated sprint laps in each closed road circuit race round: 5, 3, 2, 1
The overall competition will be won by the rider who gains the highest number of points gained.
